An active chamber and orchestral musician, cellist Amber Ghent has performed throughout North America with a variety of ensembles including Tapestry New Opera, NUMUS contemporary music, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Orchestra London, the Windsor Symphony, Fredonia Bach and Beyond Early Music Festival, Canton Symphony, and the Erie Philharmonic where she was assistant principal 2004-2005. Ms Ghent has performed and recorded with various artists including most recently Bob Wiseman, Blue Rodeo, and Paisley Jura; and for Eclectra and Artifact labels, and numerous CBC broadcasts.
Originally from Petersburg, Ontario, Amber began Suzuki cello at age seven. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Honours Performance from Wilfrid Laurier University where she studied with Paul Pulford and members of the Penderecki String Quartet. Amber continued her studies in San Francisco with Bonnie Hampton, and in Cleveland, where she worked with members of the Cleveland Orchestra. Teachers and coaches have included Laurence Lesser, David Finkel, Timothy Eddy, Steve Doane, Desmond Hoebig, and members of the Miro, Cavani, Ying string quartets and the Gryhpon trio.
Amber is also a dedicated educator in demand as a teacher, adjudicator, and education consultant collaborating with composers in the development of new works for young cellists. She especially enjoys teaching at numerous summer festivals, most recently Lakefield Music. Ms. Ghent is on faculty at the Suzuki String School of Guelph and also maintains an active studio in Kitchener.
